Blue & White, Done Totally Right

Blue & White, Done Totally Right

Certain things, they just don’t go out of style. Classic blue and white décor has stood the test of time, since Chinese porcelain used for decoration made its debut in the 14th century. (That’s 700 years, y’all). We’re giving tips on blue and white décor and how to add them into your home.

  1. Wallpaper

In the bedroom, powder room, living area—we’ve been spending lots of time swooning over blue and white wallpaper samples lately. Wallpaper makes such a statement and is a classy and elegant way to add color to your space. Sidenote: Our founder, Heloise, recently wallpapered her bathroom in classic blue and white, and we are low-key obsessed. Check out our Instagram for recent photos.

  1. Ginger Jars

If you’ve spent any time on our site, you may have noticed our love for ginger jars. On bookshelves, on the floor—can’t stop, won’t stop. Group these eye-catching beauties on the floor or table or use them to as accent pieces. I think our favorite way is as a floral vase. Try some blue or white hydrangeas. *Swoon*.

There’s nothing quite like a great blue and white rug. Find the perfect one, then keep the rest of the décor simple and classy. We love a blue and white rug paired with a gold coffee table. Can it get much more gorgeous?

  1. Lamps

We love the way a lamp can add a bold pop of color. Try bold blues, classy whites, or blue and white patterns to bring style to your bedside or side table.

Fabric Friday: Velvets

Velvets. They have been called a lot of names over the years, but we think that they're pretty awesome and want to set the record straight.
While velvet might seem like an intimidating fabric to bring into your home it can also be the simplest decision when it comes to layering fabrics or adding that pop of color. We think that layering a solid velvet pillow behind your patterned pillow is a classic and timeless look. Some might ask, “Isn’t velvet a winter fabric?” - we're here to tell you that anyone who told you this is a liar! Velvets are great for year-round decorating, they're soft and add a subtle textural element to a space.

Here is our mood board to inspire you to think about adding velvets to your own home!

It's a good thing that you have the full scoop on velvets because Mintwood Home now offers them in our design your own pillow shop in a variety of colors to suit your home.

Mintwood Home Gift Registry 101

Creating your bridal registry is one of the most fun things to do for the newly engaged bride and groom, picking out pieces that you both love and need for the home you will share (or already share) together. Movies have glamorized it, and an entire wedding industry has been largely created around “the registry.”
But, let's be real, it can also be pretty overwhelming and can sometimes cause some of the first "disagreements" between a couple.

To simplify this process, here are a few of our tips for deciding where to register and how to put together a well rounded registry that guests feel inspired to shop from!

  1. Don't just register at big department stores: Maybe we're a little biased, but we always think it's a good idea to register with at least one smaller boutique shop that offers specialty gifts and home accents that you just can't find at big department stores. This might be a sweet gift shop in your hometown or it could be an online retailer...like Mintwood Home! Just a subtle hint, right?
  2. Pick a few different price points: This gives your wedding guests a chance to browse through and choose gifts that match their budget. Small vases, coasters and other bar accessories are great items to think about with lower price points!
  3. Design your Own Pillows: People love giving gifts that are customized, unique and special to you. Design your own pillows with us and add them to your registry. Someone is going to be thrilled to have the chance to give you something they know you're going to love and USE!
  4. Think about pieces that will transition from space to space: This one is huge. Think mirrorslamps, art, side tables, bar carts--these are some of our favorite suggestions when people ask us how to make a space feel like a home. They are transitional pieces that you use from home to home. They can also make fun gifts for your friends to go in on together.
  5. Bedding: This is one that is often overlooked or forgotten about, but oh so important. Our coverlets and duvets are great basic building blocks for your marriage bed.
  6. Register for pieces that you love: At the end of the day, your friends and family are so excited for you to be getting married and want to get you the things that you love.
