Blue & White, Done Totally Right

Blue & White, Done Totally Right

Certain things, they just don’t go out of style. Classic blue and white décor has stood the test of time, since Chinese porcelain used for decoration made its debut in the 14th century. (That’s 700 years, y’all). We’re giving tips on blue and white décor and how to add them into your home.

  1. Wallpaper

In the bedroom, powder room, living area—we’ve been spending lots of time swooning over blue and white wallpaper samples lately. Wallpaper makes such a statement and is a classy and elegant way to add color to your space. Sidenote: Our founder, Heloise, recently wallpapered her bathroom in classic blue and white, and we are low-key obsessed. Check out our Instagram for recent photos.

  1. Ginger Jars

If you’ve spent any time on our site, you may have noticed our love for ginger jars. On bookshelves, on the floor—can’t stop, won’t stop. Group these eye-catching beauties on the floor or table or use them to as accent pieces. I think our favorite way is as a floral vase. Try some blue or white hydrangeas. *Swoon*.

  1. Rugs

There’s nothing quite like a great blue and white rug. Find the perfect one, then keep the rest of the décor simple and classy. We love a blue and white rug paired with a gold coffee table. Can it get much more gorgeous?

PS – Looking for a gorgeous coffee table to complement that new rug? We can help. This one is a favorite.

  1. Lamps

We love the way a lamp can add a bold pop of color. Try bold blues, classy whites, or blue and white patterns to bring style to your bedside or side table.

  1. Bedding

Looking for simple and easy ways to refresh your bedroom? New bedding, please. This blue and white cool color combination will transform your bedroom into the sanctuary you’ve always dreamed of.

We like our Bloody Marys to be a meal so for us, the more fixin's the better. Right!? We're talking bacon, cheese, okra, stuffed olives, cheese straws, pickles, hot peppers, celery and old bay dusted shrimp to name a few of our faves. Also, the spicier the better in our book!

New Years Eve Party Guide | Featuring Defined Designs

New Years Eve Party Guide | Featuring Defined Designs

We're so thrilled to have Emma Newell of Defined Designs Blog here sharing her favorite Mintwood Home party-ready products to help ring in 2016!

Nothing is more fun than push-pop confetti, however, we do recommend making this an outdoor activity...we speak from experience. We also love Emma's idea to use the quartz rock box for collecting each guests best moment from 2015 and reading them allowed after midnight.

We think that every NYE party cocktail should be served in a gold rimmed glass! Coasters are also a must-have when entertaining, scatter them around before guests arrive and hope for the best.

You already know that anything black and white and gold is a must-have in our book. Serve up a classy charcuterie board and a fruit salad for your guests.

Blogs & Coffee

Happy Monday! In honor of everyone's favorite day of the week...we're each sharing our five favorite blogs. Many of these blogs were some of the first we ever read and in many ways, planted the seed and paved the way for Mintwood Home. Some you've heard of, some maybe not but we're pretty sure they'll brighten and inspire your Monday just like they've done for us over the years.

Now, can someone please pass the coffee!?

DIY: Ikea Hacks

Oh yes, we have jumped on the Ikea Hack bandwagon with two feet.

Since Mintwood Home is a startup and we don't sell a ton of furniture (yet!), it's a constant struggle to furnish scenes for our photo shoots. We've tried a few different routes since we started including pulling pieces from our own homes (we still do this) and borrowing from dear friends but the truth is, it's difficult to keep each photo shoot feeling fresh and different when we're using all the same furniture over and over again. For this past photo shoot, Ikea Hacks were a total game changer and enabled us to easily switch things up for some of our shots. We're never ones to shy away from a little DIY and if we have learned anything over the past seven months it's that there is nothing, and I mean NOTHING, that a can of gold spray paint can't fix.

Photo shoots aside, the struggle is real no matter who you are or what you do. Furnishing every square inch of a home is hard and Ikea Hacks are an affordable alternative to the furniture wearing up to four figure price tags. Dare we say that sometimes we even like the hacked versions better than the real thing?! See below to decide for yourself!

*Sadly the table used for this hack is no longer available at Ikea but we think this table could be used instead!

It's getting to be the time of year when we're just itching to set a pretty table and invite the girls over for delicious food & drink! While it's not quite warm enough to take the party out doors (at least not here in DC), that doesn't mean you can't put together a bright and festive spring inspired tablescape. Take a look at some fun (and simple) ways we used some of our favorite spring linens!
